Rounded sex education is good for our health. This needs to include anatomy, reproductive health and commonly occurring viruses that could affect any of us. Increasing knowledge around HPV is crucial – which is why we’ve created new resources and focussed on this issue during September.
Our recent survey found that three in ten adults have never heard of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and over 40% have a poor understanding of it (Yougov August 2021). There is a lot of stigma surrounding HPV and many common myths that prevent people understanding it and attending their cervical screening appointments. This event aims to break these taboos and bust the myths that surround HPV, to raise awareness of it and empower people to look after their sexual health, get vaccinated if relevant and attend cervical screening if relevant. We also want to have a broader conversation about sex education and why making sure that includes essential reproductive health messages, information and myth busting will ultimately help everyone look after their health and prevent cancer / diagnose it earlier. That’s what we all want.
