DAVID TERRAR [00:00:11] Hi, this is David Terrar reporting for Disruptive Live. And we’re at the London Tech Show at Cloud Expo Europe. And I’ve got Brian Roe with me from Servecentric. Good day to you. How’s it going?
BRIAN ROE [00:00:22] Very good so far.
DAVID TERRAR [00:00:23] Tell me about Servecentric. What do you do?
BRIAN ROE [00:00:26] Servecentric is a data centre solutions company. Were based in Dublin.
DAVID TERRAR [00:00:31] I hadn’t guessed that from your accent.
BRIAN ROE [00:00:32] We yeah, we we provide a number of services, but a three core services which are a co-location, cloud services and connectivity services.
DAVID TERRAR [00:00:43] Cloud connectivity, the three CS. I like that. Well obviously in today’s environment cloud is a much bigger thing. So how to Servecentric kind of fit into that cloud ecosystem?
BRIAN ROE [00:00:54] Yeah, absolutely. Well, everything is obviously moving towards kind of cloud delivery and those models are different. You know what’s behind that is a data centre always. So whether that’s a hyper scale like Amazon or AW sorry, Azure or any of those. So, you know, some people are operating out of that, but some people are operating their own hardware at the back end. And so, you know, we’d have companies that are delivering IoT cloud based solutions purely from a hardware perspective in our data centre. So and, you know, we sit in the middle by providing, you know, what the customers need in terms of connectivity into those AWS or Azure or G Cloud and having the on premise hardware in our data centre or consuming our cloud itself.
DAVID TERRAR [00:01:41] OK, so you’ve got your own public cloud services.
BRIAN ROE [00:01:43] Yeah, we do. Yeah so we.
DAVID TERRAR [00:01:44] How does that match up to sort of things like you mentioned Azure and AWS.
BRIAN ROE [00:01:48] Yeah, we play well with them. So we’d have customers that are consuming those products and through us. And the reason we have our own public cloud is just to kind of provide a couple of differentiators for our clients. One of those key differentiators is that we can do hybrid in the data centre, so we can do one gig or a ten gig cross connect from there co-location into our cloud with no latency. And another key differentiators is cost. Our model is a lower cost model and it’s a much easier to understand model. I think a lot of people are familiar with what they called bill shock, which you may get with the hyperscale providers.
DAVID TERRAR [00:02:24] I’ve heard of that.
DAVID TERRAR [00:02:25] And our our model is very linear. You pay for compute. You pay for memory. And you pay for storage. And you, there’s no bundles. So you just pay for what you consume. And it generally works out about 40 percent, the TCO is about 40 percent less than than working with the hyperscales. The last thing is we’re a private Irish company. So and you know, things like data sovereignty sometimes come into it and sometimes people work with us because we’re a private Irish company as opposed to a US conglomerate.
DAVID TERRAR [00:02:56] That makes perfect sense. What do you think of the show today, how is it going?
BRIAN ROE [00:03:00] Yeah, it’s going. It’s it’s quiet, obviously, because of.
DAVID TERRAR [00:03:04] We won’t mention that.
BRIAN ROE [00:03:05] Yeah yeah, let’s not talk about that. Yeah, the anti-virus isn’t working, but you know, we’ve had some very good conversations with other exhibitors and, you know, some good partnership conversations.
DAVID TERRAR [00:03:16] Is it the first time you’ve been at the show?
BRIAN ROE [00:03:17] It’s the first time as an exhibitor. And I’ve been here a few times as a delegate.
DAVID TERRAR [00:03:24] Where next for for for the company? What are your plans for the next two, three years say?
BRIAN ROE [00:03:29] Yeah, I think were traditionally our business is a co-location. And as we move towards cloud, we’re trying to be more of an end to end solution for clients. So we’re looking at providing security service. We run a 27 24/7 NOC, so we provide those traditional hands and eyes, but we’re kind of upscaling so we can provide security services, monitoring services, cloud services, cloud connectivity services. So we’re getting more involved with the customer rather than just providing power and cooling to clients we’re getting more into the technology and providing those services.
DAVID TERRAR [00:04:05] And so the monitoring you’re doing is kind of helping them manage that multi-cloud environment that they’re living in.
BRIAN ROE [00:04:09] Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, there are a lot of those people aren’t infrastructure, they’re development companies. They develop their software. They do the magic at the top and we look after everything underneath. And we want to be more of a kind of an end to end solution for those clients.
DAVID TERRAR [00:04:23] That sounds really great. Well, I think is there anything else at the show that you’re looking out to go find out about while you’re here?
BRIAN ROE [00:04:33] Yeah. I mean, we’re we’re very interested in the IoT space. So, you know, I’ve I’ve hung around that area a little bit. .
DAVID TERRAR [00:04:40] That’s that’s a potential opportunity for you?
BRIAN ROE [00:04:41] Absolutely. Yeah. And we’d have customers in that space as well. And obviously the growth in IoT is explosive and the data that’s coming out of that and that all fits back to the data.
DAVID TERRAR [00:04:50] It’s going to be amazing.
BRIAN ROE [00:04:51] Yeah, absolutely.
DAVID TERRAR [00:04:52] Well, Brian, it’s been great talking to you.
