[00:02:08] Hello, Darshana. Thank you very much. I’m Nicole, m’appelle Tonia and I run Global Alliances for Barracuda. We’ve actually got a couple of really exciting guests today, and I’d love to give both of them an opportunity to introduce themselves. Rashmi, would you like to start?

[00:02:30] I’m Rashmi, unstoppably, I run as you watch Ridgeland in the networking, also Azure network, Digital Appliances will be here today.

[00:02:41] Thank you. How about you, Tim, can you do an intro for us?

[00:02:45] Sure. Hi, everybody. Good morning. I’m Tim Jefferson with Vorkuta. I’m responsible for product development, engineering for Barracuda. We have a portfolio often called DNA, which is a cool sounding acronym, but it stands for our data protection network and application security portfolio. So we have a on the data side, we have a Cloud to Cloud backup solution that backs up Microsoft Office suite sixty five that’s hosted on Azure for application. We have a global LAF as a service and advance protection service that also is hosted on Azure. And today we’ll be talking about our Cloud gen firewall.

[00:03:23] Yes, very exciting. And as Tim mentioned, we’re going to be talking about networking, and so to kick things off, rush me. Microsoft has many, many global events, but two of the largest are inspire and ignite and inspire. A few weeks ago, you guys had a really exciting announcement. I was wondering if you could talk a little bit about what you launched at that event.

[00:03:48] This is a great question. We always get excited talking about all our announcements, but this July has been phenomenal. We’ve had a ton of those. But let me just quickly walk you through the things. But first, let me show you a slide. Yes, thank you. So this is a slide that they show basically talking about the breadth of Azure and pretty much Azure everywhere you you’re there, you can find Azure in almost every part of the planet. So it’s in sixty one regions in one hundred and seventy parts. And the reason why I want to start with this is because this kind of gives you the gamut or the breadth of the Azure is an absolute one, basically unified networking, security and routeing built on top of this global network. So this July we announced a lot of features and some of the cool ones were the capabilities to stitch all this together. We had to have connectivity. We had the entire transit connect and off to the next flight. Thank you. So what we had this July is a gamut of speeches around the country. So we hope to have that transit connectivity between any kind of end users of branches all the coming together. We also had features and custom routeing so you can basically customise the traffic flows of routeing around different routes in the globe around which land on-premise as well as in the space of. We also had a cool capability of security to manage scenarios, and it’s very nice to see that because it kind of switches the entire connectivity is to get them into different kinds of laws. And last but not the least, the biggest bang was this announcement, which was the integrated to the plans and just the barracuda as the first partner that we are bringing together. The solution has to be that the single.

[00:06:14] Super helpful, thank you very much. I think the thing that I’m wondering most about is what problem for customers does does all of that help solve? You’ve given us a lot of information there, Rashmi, about the global network, stitching it together, transit gateway, all of those things. But what at the root is sort of the the problem that Microsoft is working to to really help customers with?

[00:06:41] Great question. There’s just many things in it. But if you just take a step back, let me tell you about the journey we actually had a few years ago. We were looking at just a landscape of connectivity, security, routeing and, you know, all of the things that make big and lots of things that we actually heard from our customers and user base was make it easy and make it easy in such a way that you are not focussed on the nuts and bolts, but rather on the big picture running the business. And as it started to look at some of the pieces that stood out very specifically wasn’t that there were many providers out there, but they all had a proprietary information and it was important to keep them in place. And Stephen, as you know, basically simplifies a lot of things. But it’s a unified framework of connectivity and the multiple other functionalities. But at the core of it, there is the pod selection there. You can still track it differently and take different paths at the parties and be able to provide application based routeing, which is depending on the application, the nestlings from the space. So when we start to look at it, what we realised was the symmetries where one top of the other that was required to accept it. And as Virgil van Blue Chip, what we realised was the SD-Wan space of all these solutions required them to be integrated into one of the customer problems that we want to solve was how do we bring this in a simple way and integrate that already updating and all of these different nuts and bolts when you start adding all these other becomes a lot of information. So when you’re putting a Big Mac together, it gets pretty complicated. So the other part of it is a fuse is setting up. A network is bringing as security routeing on in a single stream of glass. And that’s how.

[00:08:58] Got it. Yeah, that’s that’s great. Makes a lot of sense. So one of the things that Barracuda has done is worked very closely with with Microsoft to try to try to solve some of those those issues that you mentioned. I think what we’d also love to better understand is, is where is this fit in particular, the Barracuda solution, which was part of the announcement and inspire. Yes, yes, yes.

[00:09:26] That’s a great question. The Barracuda is the first partner that we have integrated as a network appliance solution in the system. And when I say integrated, what does that mean? Basically brings the best of first party and third party together. And what that means is when you get solutions in the Cloud, there is a beauty about you get a lot of the things that you don’t have to think about. You don’t have to think about resiliency. You don’t have to think about managing it yourself. You don’t have to think about a different kinds of traffic. All of that integration basically at the Barracuda, the proprietary protocol that basically is the heart of SD-Wan. And you can provide the election. You can provide all the cool features of SD-Wan for application based routeing. You can do micro segmentation and you can basically bring different kinds of SD-Wan what it was at the branch potentially as to all of this. It’s only possible to kind of bring in in a single frame with this whole whole aspect of the solution and integrate the. Now, what you can do is you don’t have to worry. The user doesn’t have to worry about managing the resiliency, managing the routeing they can simply go and provision of Eric Rudolph on the Azure mark. That’s no different than what the experience is. But once efficient, if you don’t have to think about what do I do about it, what do I do about what will be what do we do about plumbing all out, Venus coming on the roads in as a hub. All of that is just in simply just put the fabric in the hub and the hub and spoke to parties. You get copies of Venus and Aston as you do that. It just comes with all these capabilities, which kind of brings all of these together in a beautiful way. So I believe that this is the first time barracudas capability or capability stay intact. But at the same time, it also brings all the Cloud goodness, along with a wonderful solution for our users to.

[00:11:39] Yeah, that that helps a lot as well. Thank you, Tim. So for you, why was it important to to integrate? And obviously this I’m guessing, a lot of time and energy spent working with the Microsoft engineering teams, product teams, et cetera. What what are some of your take on the solution itself and the integration and its significance?

[00:12:03] I mean, this was just such a great opportunity. I think when we saw that Microsoft launched V when we saw a big change where the Cloud traditionally was a place where had quickly become a place for deploying applications and compute and storage. But now Cloud is becoming the network and VMware became this amazing construct to allow us to offer and now customers not only to leverage Microsoft’s global transit network, but now we could say to reach this point that we thought our core competency is delivering a secure when service. We’ve had a very mature security when product for over 10 years. And we thought, hey, if we can jointly develop this with Microsoft. And I think what was unique about Microsoft’s approach here, instead of just providing a connectivity integration, which would create some of the challenges that we had mentioned, that the customer would then have to manage the account subscriptions, the deployment, the networking, the scalability, which adds friction. They open the door to do a unique level first party like integration where we could jointly develop. And we did this over a year and a natively integrated construct that would allow ISP partners like Barracuda to bring unique value. And what we wanted to bring was a curiosity win capability to Azure billion in this leverage is what Microsoft’s so good at. They arguably have the world’s largest, most performant network, as we mentioned, sixty one regions’ over one hundred seventy pops. And this is really the core value proposition around what sasy in these types of value propositions bring that you can leverage a global footprint, this global transit network, and then allow customers the flexibility to deploy and manage their own infrastructure. So we’re really excited about the opportunity in the collaboration we had with Microsoft to build this this global security service through the vent product.

[00:14:12] A little more on the product and thinking about sort of two things. Is there anything that’s really different about Vorkuta other than the integration? I think that makes a lot of sense. But is there something that’s different about the Barracuda technology and have third parties either endorsed or sort of picked up on what what is being jointly added here?

[00:14:34] So I think the what we wanted to bring is we had very mature estie when technology, as we mentioned, we have a protocol that’s evolved over a decade around highly distributed requirements around resiliency and availability. And you required that symmetry she she spoke about earlier that allows us to have multi transfer capability to to have a unique and active way of measuring not only active and passive performance requirements within those connexions, but being able to spin up lots of transport, a multi transport system to give customers that resiliency and being able to integrate that into view and allows the customers now to deploy their hubs or perhaps wherever they want and provide a very rich, mature, SD-Wan service. So the next thing that we wanted to bring that was unique was around that the ease of use and in our the strength is really around allowing customers just to get started, whether you’re just a handful of locations, five, 10, 20 locations, up to a thousand or five thousand or ten thousand locations, you can quickly and easily deploy the solution. And we built a zero touch service that allows at the branch office appliances or VMS to be shipped and all they need is power connectivity. And they self register into an orchestration service that quickly and easily allows administrator to push policy out to all these locations. So bringing a quick ease of use with very mature esquenet technology. And the last piece we wanted to cover was the security piece. Of course, we have a well-established energy firewall that has typical engine firewall capabilities around ECLSS, DPI, malware, URL Filtering Security, Gateway capability is integrating that security capability into the service. And this allows customers from the branch office now to support a whole bunch of unique use cases, site to site. You use cases where they can do unique segmentation, saying, hey, site is only allowed to talk to site B or site A’s. Talking to a site for one is able to talk to a site, be Port B, site to Cloud, where site one can only talk to application A or B, so you can kind of build really fine grained policies. And then the next piece we’re looking at doing in the second half of this year is around Venette to Venette segmentation and pulse enforcement. So that’s to come.

[00:17:10] Awesome and very helpful. So it sounds like a lot of pieces are coming together and the whole goal was to make it easy and really drive that from a technology perspective. Did you guys think about anything on the commercial side to also make that kind of consumable or easy for your customers?

[00:17:32] I think you know, that one of the best part about this is this the collaboration between the two teams.

[00:17:40] So working with Rush, me and the engineering team, thinking through the entire offering, not only from the technology on for the first time, Microsoft again create this unique opportunity for partners like us to do this native integration. So we thought through the best way to instrument this technology in a way that’s very easy for customers, but also thinking through the commercials to make sure it’s very affordable and competitive in the marketplace and to reduce as much friction in the transaction process.

[00:18:11] So as we mentioned, the cool thing about this is the native integration and the Azure console that you could quickly through the view on console, just go select that the city when offering and it kicks you right into a marketplace offering and customers often run.

[00:18:29] And maybe to both of you, one thing that I’m hearing a lot about is sassy and not not sassy like my teenage daughter is your access service edge. So, SaSe, can you talk a little bit about that? I think that’s an acronym that we’re hearing a lot about. But I and I have some context, but I’m not exactly sure how it fits here. Yeah.

[00:18:55] So a very simple way of thinking about sassy and love. The joke is they say unifiers, steben, security, all the network, not because you get to keep what is distributed, distributed and you also get the sassy is kind of that unified framework that brings together SD-Wan the beauties of CNN security and network as a service. So what’s your line kind of fit then right there? Because that’s exactly what it is. Is it the testing when you’re already enrolled? So a lot of our customers are going to get about SAP HANA. a lot more going forward. You know, when you start connecting and then you start securing, when you start routeing, then you start exiting your act and look at your discriminative user base. You start thinking about all of these pieces together. And that’s that is only going to.

[00:19:59] And do you want to add, I think, you know, stats at this point is still a concept that’s evolving and, you know, in marrying this this opportunity that that cloud based offerings provide customers. And it was interesting, Gartner even mentioned that looking at all the vendors that the as players had not established themselves as a viable offering. And I think with Microsoft offering the view when in the state of integration changes that so now it gives customers an opportunity to leverage. One of the big tenets of Saussy is having a cloud based deployment and be able to have pops that are easily performant around the services you want to offer that are nearby. And Microsoft having this global transit network with one hundred seventy pops gives the kind of availability that’s unprecedented and again, arguably the world’s most performant network. So it’s a great opportunity for for partners like us to integrate with that. And then the other the other thing I want to mention and Sassi, is this evolution of security requirements mixed with the deployment model. Casesa is really about the deployment model and how you want to instrument your security controls. And I think the thing that’s unique about what we’re trying to do is one of the more modern security principles that’s evolving, especially with Cloud is the ability as the perimeter goes the way you want to push your security controls as far up to the edge as possible. And then the integration with the Azure Raewyn allows us to just to embrace this evolving best practise principle where you can do policy enforcement in the cloud, but you can also push policy enforcement out to the edge. And the edge starts to get redefined as not only the branch in the user sitting behind the branch. So you can do policy enforcement and do local breakout from the branch to to the right source applications and apply policy at the edge, but also could be to the user. So one of the constructs of sasy is around offering a more modern mechanism for doing policy enforcement for remote users and then finally thinking about things. So it’s not only but buildings, people and things. So as the the adjustable Ethernet and Otey use cases expand that, you’d also want to secure those connexions that. Well, it’s the same type of technology, so. It’s it’s it’s an interesting, quickly evolving space and and.

[00:22:40] We’re excited to play it in.

[00:22:43] It sounds like that helps with a lot of the sort of legacy issues folks have had, but also it seems like you’re talking a little bit about futures as we talk about things and that type of security. Rushmere, to you, what do you think the challenges will be sort of in the future that customers will need to address?

[00:23:04] I think then that covid hit the world, we all kind of. Overnight realise the explosion of user base where they went from one dimension, which was working in offices, working in smaller offices, are bigger offices to just being remote. Do I think the biggest challenge that customers are going to see as as they evolve into the next generation of our network is the explosion of users and it’s just going to get the elements of a network is just going to get more diverse. We’re going to have a mix and match, going to have different kinds of you’re going to be a user that will want thousands and millions of users with petabytes of data or more. So it’s all going to be about skill performance. And then when you bring all these complicated pieces together, you are going to start asking about I don’t want to learn about how to do this and how to do that because it just adds up. It is going to be even more important to keep. It is like this is very hard to make things that simple, but very easy to make things complicated. So I think with one of the biggest challenges, the challenges that users and customers are going to see with just how the next book is evolving with those users is the user base, is the technology diversity, and it’s also how the functionality is going to grow. So how do you bring all this together and just focus on the problem as opposed to learning all the bits of the. Kim, do you want to add some?

[00:24:49] Now, I think that that’s good. Sorry.

[00:24:56] Wonderful. I asked a lot of questions, is there anything that either of you would like to add that we maybe haven’t covered? It was funny. We almost got all the way through this without saying covid, which is amazing.

[00:25:08] So many of these sessions have started with covid. So I think that is a good landing spot. But and puts it in context for the future and what we’ll need to do. But would either be like a chance to to wrap up.

[00:25:22] You all say, you know, I think it’s been so great working with Microsoft and I think this unique approach they took to their partner ecosystem and looking at it feels like us and thinking through what unique value we can bring customers and thinking through how to do a native integration where Microsoft customers can benefit what what Microsoft does so well, which is managing global infrastructure at scale and building highly performing and available networks and looking at their partner community and thinking through what do we bring unique that brings customer value. So being able to kind of build from scratch an architect decision together and kind of thinking through where we can bring the most value to customers has been has been awesome. And to this point, as more mobile users start working from home as part of the pandemic, it it also increases the need to think through how to leverage Cloud. And this more and more users are accessing SaaS applications and more and more applications are moving into the data centres, moving into Azure that you have a central policy by which you can manage users and remote offices as they get more federated in this environment and building strong, super easy to to maintain policy and security policy has been difficult to Rushdie’s point. So I think this this opportunity to work and collaborate together to solve this customer problem by building a very easy to use, very scalable solution. Been awesome. And I can’t wait. That first an announcement came out and we got many more to come. So I want to thank Microsoft and Rushdi for their support.

[00:27:09] Absolutely mean. It’s been a pleasure working with them and you have been an amazing team to work with them. And we’ve done so much together to bring this DDoS solution, fear and insecurity together. I mean, it’s been an amazing journey.

[00:27:26] Yeah, there’s a lot to celebrate here, I think, for for the for the problem solving, when I think about the six years that I’ve been at Barracuda working with Microsoft, we’ve done lots and lots of work with different product teams. And so this really is an example of us both driving the better together story in a very meaningful way. And so thank you very much, both of you, for your time. This has been great.
