NAYOKA OWARE [00:00:11] Hello and welcome to day two of the London Tech show by CloserStill Media held right here at Excel London. I’m Nayoka Oware hosting for Disruptive Live. And today I’m joined by Jeremy Bryan, the Global Partner Manager of DiscShred. Jeremy, how are you doing?

JEREMY BRYAN [00:00:28] Hi, how are you?

NAYOKA OWARE [00:00:29] I’m well, thank you. How are you enjoying the events so far?

JEREMY BRYAN [00:00:32] Yeah, it’s great. It’s quite an unusual year obviously, the numbers are down, understandably, but it’s it’s kind of given us a chance for exhibitors to get together and chat more than we usually would do. So, yeah, it’s been great.

NAYOKA OWARE [00:00:49] So we already know that you’re a global partner manager. But tell us exactly what that is and what your job role entails.

JEREMY BRYAN [00:00:55] Okay. So, you know, we are an IT asset disposal firm first and foremost. And DiscShred is a brand of asset management Ireland. So as a global partner manager, my role is to kind of extend the reach that we have. We work ultimately in the UK and Ireland and we do some work in Western Europe as well. A lot of contracts are decided in farther flung areas of the world. A lot of contracts are designed and given out in the US, for example. So my role is to reach out and meet other IT asset disposal firms in the US and promote our brand and our business so that we can do the work in the UK and Ireland for them.

NAYOKA OWARE [00:01:44] What differentiates you from other IT asset disposal organisations?

JEREMY BRYAN [00:01:49] Okay. So, you know, there’s a there’s a there’s a lot to IT asset disposal. It’s not an incredibly exciting world, anything like that. But there are quite a lot of different aspects to it. IT asset disposal, you know, with the induction of the GDPR last year and you know, all the ISO and compliance focus, it’s really important to get that right. Organisations can’t take any any risks ultimately with their end of life I. equipment. So it’s important to get the right partner involved. AMI DiscShred are one of the most accredited organizations, not just in the UK and Ireland, but across the world. We have a few of the accreditations we have, for example, would be ADISA. They would be recognised as as the leading asset disposal accreditation organisation in Europe. ISO’s 9,14,18,27 thousand and one. And a few different other accreditations which ultimately mean that are our clients don’t need to worry about coming and vetting us and doing due diligence because there’s so many organisations out there that are coming in to assess us and those include, you know, random audits as well as as pre-planned audits. So, you know, we are incredibly well assessed and and keep everything up to date. But so that’s the accreditation side. So people don’t need to worry about that. A second part is, you know, the range of services we provide and that might be everything from, you know, going and picking up a retired piece of IT equipment like a PC or a server, anything like that, to shredding the hard drives, to remarketing, to reselling that on behalf of our end clients. So, you know, the range of services is important. The financial aspect is, of course, really important. You know, while we get everything right in terms of our due diligence and presenting our organisation well, we have to get the financials right as well. So our pricing is second to none. But the key part of it is generating an income from what is ultimately redundant equipment. So a lot of organisations would have sought a three year refresh policies of their IT equipment, five year and some organisations just get rid of it when it falls over. But we take the equipment, make it data safe and find a new home for that. And you know, if we resell our equipment right across the world on behalf of our clients to get the very best value back from them.

NAYOKA OWARE [00:04:41] Wonderful. And how long has DiscShred been around for?

JEREMY BRYAN [00:04:44] Well, we we’ve been around nearly 20 years. We started in Ireland Asset Management ireland is became AMI to make it a more global brand. And we started at a time when Ireland was giving a lot of tax benefits to global organisations to settle in the country. We were incredibly fortunate because we set up in 2001 and we got some of those key clients, some of the big American IT firms. And all the social media firms were in their infancy then and started to settle in Europe because of the tax benefits, some of them still have their headquarters. European headquarters in Ireland and some of the global headquarters in Ireland. We quickly had to up-skill to make sure that they had the solutions that they needed that they were used to in America that weren’t necessarily available in Europe. So, you know, that was things like having the right ISO accreditations in place and the right solutions. So there was no data shredding trucks in Europe at that time, disk shredding trucks in Europe. We now have three that go right across Europe. And the first ones in Europe were in Ireland. And there were two services, big American clients. So yeah, we’ve been there for nearly 20 years, which in IT asset disposals is quite a long time.

NAYOKA OWARE [00:06:06] It  really is, that’s impressive. Amazing. Now, I know that this isn’t your first year here. So based on your experience over the past few years or so, what would you like to see done differently next year or what would you like to see more of?

JEREMY BRYAN [00:06:22] Like you say, this year has been quite unusual because, you know, we’ve been reliant on speaking to exhibitors more so that the footfall hasn’t hasn’t just been here. There’s probably about a third of the people here. But what has made us realise maybe is that there’s so much value in speaking to like minded organisations, not necessarily in the same field that we can, you know, work with. So we’ve picked up quite a lot of leads from exhibitors that we wouldn’t usually have the time to speak to. There is a networking event usually on on the first day after the show, which is great, but I would like to see more of a platform, you know, during the shows that exhibitors could meet in exhibitors zones. There are VIP zones and so on. It would be great to have an exhibitor zone too to to sort of have a chat with some of our our colleagues ultimately.

NAYOKA OWARE [00:07:14] Well, hopefully we’ll see that added next year.

JEREMY BRYAN [00:07:16] That’ll be great.

NAYOKA OWARE [00:07:17] Lastly, Jeremy, what do you enjoy about your job? What do you love about it?

JEREMY BRYAN [00:07:24] It’s it’s a great company to work for, I have to say. And over the last few years, we’ve grown so much. When I started, there was there was less. There was 26 people I think. We nearly have we will have 100 staff by the end of the year. So it’s growing quite quickly. It’s quite exciting to be involved in a company that’s that’s moving so fast as well and growing. And ultimately, my job is engaging with and speaking to clients. So I enjoy that aspect of it, too.
