NATALIE TURNER [00:00:13] Welcome back to day two of the Digital Transformation Expo, I’m Natalie Turner with Disruptive Live. And today, I am joined by Pedro Martins. Pedro, how are you?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:00:24] Very good, yourself?

NATALIE TURNER [00:00:24] Yes, I’m very well, thank you. So, Pedro, you’re the Security Consultant at Last Pass. Could you tell us a little bit about what you do who, you’re with by LogMeIn as well?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:00:35] Yeah.

NATALIE TURNER [00:00:36] So if you could tell us a little bit more about that, that’d be a great start.

PEDRO MARTINS [00:00:40] Absolutely. So Last Pass is our security products from the identity access management business unit, but actually, the parent company or the holding company of that is LogMeIn, LogMeIn has several business units and Last Pass is kind of, identity access management, what we do at Last Pass, we have an identity and access management suite. So offerings for personal and we have a free offering. So it’s going to be a freebie model as well. So offer offerings for personal, for families and then for small and medium businesses and watching the prices and then several offerings within those packages as well.

NATALIE TURNER [00:01:12] Fantastic. So with DTX, is this your first year here or have you been coming for a few years now.

PEDRO MARTINS [00:01:16] No. I think we’ve been coming for a few years.

NATALIE TURNER [00:01:19] What main differences have you seen from when you first started coming to the last two days?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:01:24] I mean, it’s always very well organized. Our focus this year probably a little bit more focussed on security. We see a lot of action by the trends and by what’s been happening in the industry. You see that there’s more and more interest in the new technology and security. I mean, even at other conferences, you feel that there’s a shift between talking about machines and systems and talking a lot about people, but habits and how people influence really the whole thing, the whole security industry.

NATALIE TURNER [00:01:52] So what does digital transformation mean to you?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:01:55] Digital transformation for me is helping well helping with digital transformation is what basically our technology aims to do as well. So even without to transforming the systems that will enable business will enable revenue bring in. So I think before IT managers and security teams who are seen as the techies and now they’re actually pairing up to do digital transformation and to help other departments bring value and secure that revenue streams that they bring into the business can help them transform the systems into profitable systems.

NATALIE TURNER [00:02:27] So what’s the key message that you’re hoping to get out to your potential customers today?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:02:33] I think at LogMeIn, I want to say customers, but really for everyone. So our key message is really we want to make people aware of what they’re doing right, what they’re doing wrong. And especially, I think in my personal perspective, it starts always with a person. So it starts really how you. Are you aware of what you do online and what do you hold and what you have in this little, little, little device that we carry in our pockets all the time. How important that information is not just for yourself, but also for for your business. So how you handle intellectual property how you handle customer details, people’s details, your family details. We try to enable you to be as secure as possible and bring that kind of awareness.

NATALIE TURNER [00:03:14] So what do you think the challenges people are facing at the moment and what advice would you give them to overcome them?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:03:20] So I think it’s really educate yourself, so be aware of what you’re doing and be aware of the systems that are accessing the people that you’re talking. It’s not very uncommon for me because I work in this industry to sit in an aeroplane or just sit in a in a bus stop or in a train station. And I’m able to eavesdrop to what people are doing and see what people are running businesses and presentations in their laptops. So just be be aware of your surroundings, be aware of what you are doing and trying to not expose yourself too much. I think there’s been a lot of focus on people exploiting people. And more and more we see that tendency. So social engineering phishing has become the most predominant attack vector in the industry. And what what I mean is that really people are the weakest link and criminal organizations realize that and other trying to exploit people. So in that sense, we we try to look at the whole organization. We try to look at in society is that we work with universities, even pre schools, educational institutions, train and educate the new workforce and the kids on how to be safe and to not expose themselves to much because ultimately they will translate. I think a better better working society.

NATALIE TURNER [00:04:30] Brilliant, so what is the future looking like?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:04:32] So we are investing a lot in terms of biometrics. I think this is a tendency that is undeniable. Like it or not, I think older generations are even more concerned about biometrics than younger generations. Now you see a tendency of people  the new working generation. They just want to get access to what they need immediately and they don’t want to go through a lot of steps to get them. And you can see even nowadays banking applications and online applications such as citizen cards, for example, my Portuguese citizen card, you can you can use that to request, for example, your birth certificate, everything. So more and more people are using it to biometrics or tokens or something to identify themselves instead of a password instead of a log in. And I see that tendency becoming more and more prevalent and we’re trying to do is really use those those biometrics. So use your location. So where you’re logging in. Is it a trust location? Are you logging in from, let’s say, China and Europe in the space of one hour? Then something might be wrong. So we try to use all of the adaptive awareness. Then, based on those tendancies are based on that behaviour, give you access or deny, you actually are asking for additional, additional verification. Part of that initial verification is and the label is going to biometrics just because it’s easy. People with a fingerprint or their face the name on their phones. That’s how easy it is and we see a lot of people using that nowadays.

NATALIE TURNER [00:05:52] So talking about the future, what are you most excited about?

PEDRO MARTINS [00:05:58] I think biometrics is really becoming a lot easier and a lot more trust trustworthy in our devices. I use it all the time, but also I want to see the shift of the shift of the industry to turn the focus back on people, not just inside the perimeter. So not just when you’re at work, but also when you go home. That whole balance work life balance and private life balance. I think if Hollywood has teach us something is that’s really outside of the perimeter is really when the attack starts, you see the movie in Hollywood, they usually go to the bar, they go to the restaurants around the factories to actually try to exploit the person to try and steal their security card or their phone or something like that. And that’s really what happens in real life. So I want in my wish or my vision in terms of what I try to influence the companies to do is really do not look at your employee just as an employee. Look at your employee as a person that goes home and probably their kids use their mobile phones and use their computers to access other information instead, not just their personal information. So I try to bring awareness of that and I hope companies as well. And you can see the tendency of the industry already shifting towards that. But I think there really needs to be a more intense awareness programs to make people aware of that.
