Phillipe Chone – HSBC

DOMINIQUE HUXTABLE [00:00:02] Phillipe, thank you for coming down today. So tell me a little bit about what you do.

PHILLIPE CHONE [00:00:08] So I help large financial service institution to do big transformation to help them succeed in the digital age. So work with clients like HSBC, Deutsche Bank Visa on the very significant size of know budget of up to 100 mil plus and teams of 200 plus.

DOMINIQUE HUXTABLE [00:00:26] OK. So tell me about the challenges financial services organisations face.

PHILLIPE CHONE [00:00:31] So the challenges are quite numerous. It’s coming that the pressure is coming from the customer, the customers being these days being educated by Amazon in terms of would, does digital done properly? Looks like it’s also coming from the incumbent. From the from the challenger where Fintech are coming more nimble, not necessarily having to deal with platform, which are thirty five years old. So they are able to move much faster and tailor the product to the changing needs of the customer. Obviously, there is a regulator, which means it makes a whole challenge a bit more interesting.

DOMINIQUE HUXTABLE [00:01:02] OK. So in terms of innovation, what are the sort of the key ingredients to success?

PHILLIPE CHONE [00:01:08] The key ingredients would be start with why? Why are we doing this? What does it look like from a customer? So bringing the voice of the customer, being customer centric is key because it’s you know, it’s if it’s not making the service faster, better or cheaper for the customer, then that’s probably not shouldn’t be innovation. Second thing about innovation is making sure that it goes into production, innovation done in a lab, not going into production. Nobody sees it, nobody benefit from it. And there’s no point doing it. And obviously, in terms of couple new things there’s obviously. Well, a couple of things would be technology, making sure that you leverage the right technology, but also leveraging the data. And obviously all of this year on leadership, the way you address your leadership around innovation is quite different from doing a traditional project implementation.

DOMINIQUE HUXTABLE [00:01:54] Brilliant. Thank you for that Phillipe.

PHILLIPE CHONE [00:01:55] Thank you.
